How to add a Blog post

Blog posts are a great way to share stories and express yourself right on your My Page. The blog feature is all about you. Any blog post you add to waiterstoday.com will be compiled here on your profile page.

To get started, go to your My Page and locate the "My Blog" box in the middle column or link on the left hand side. Click the "Add a Blog Post" link in the bottom in the bottom left. You can also click on the "Add a Blog Post" link from the main page, or the "Add" link from the All Blog Posts page itself.

You can add text, links, images and even video embeds to your blog post using the text editor. You can also select the privacy of your blog post to allow anyone on the site to view it, just your friends, or just you. Click "Save as Draft" if you need to pick up the post later and want to save it. "Preview" will let you see what it looks like when posted, while "Publish" will publish the post immediately. If you want to publish it on a specific day in the future, select the radio button next to "Choose a date and time" and enter your desired date below. To notify people on Twitter or Facebook about the event, check the box next to the relevant icon, and add a message.

 

Forum

The Forum is a great way to interact with other members on our network. It is also a great place to discuss news related to to waiters today network , share experiences, and voice your opinions.  
Getting started on your discussion forum is easy. You can reply to an existing discussion or start your own. You can also choose to follow a discussion, which means you'll be notified by email when there are new replies to that discussion. 

Navigate to the Forum tab to check out existing discussions or start your own by clicking the "Add" button.

You can reply to a discussion by clicking the "Reply to This" link under any comment you'd like to reply to, adding your message to the comment box and clicking "Add Reply" when you're done.

 

Groups

You can use groups on our network to meet people with your interests or in your region.

Groups come equipped with their own discussion forum, RSS reader, text box and comment wall, and several privacy settings.

Joining a group is a great way to get started on waiters today network and to meet new people. To join an existing group, go to the Groups page. You can browse existing groups by most active, or sort them by latest activity, most members, or newest. Just choose your option from the "Sort by" menu.  Once you find an interesting group, click on its title to view it.

If the group is public, there will be a link in the top right of the page to join the group. If the group is private, you can apply to join the group from the group's page if its creator has allowed other members to request invitations.

When you join a group, you can choose to follow any comment wall, members or group forum activity. This means that when someone joins the group, posts a comment, or starts or replies to a forum discussion within the group, you'll receive an email notification about it. This is a great way to keep up to date with groups you belong to and any activities happening in the group.

To view all of the discussions in the group's forum, locate the Discussion Forum module and click the "View all" link.

If you want to receive an email notification whenever someone posts a new discussion in the Forum, after clicking the"View All" link, click "Follow" on the Forum's "All Discussions" page. If you want to get updated on responses to a specific discussion, click into that thread and click the "Follow" link at the bottom of the page.

Any "Follow" link you click will display "Stop Following" when that setting is in place. You can click the "Stop Following" link to stop receiving email notifications.

Another way of keeping up with your group's forum discussions is to click the radio signal button in the bottom left corner of the discussion page. This is an RSS feed that you can subscribe to, to bookmark the discussion thread.

Click that button to be brought to the feed's page, and then copy its URL to begin tracking it in your feed reader of choice, or to embed it elsewhere.

To create a group, go to the Groups page then click "Add.".Next, fill in information about your group. Give your group a name and be sure to upload a group image that's roughly square in size to avoid it getting distorted once saved. Fill out a description for your group, which members will see when looking for groups to join. If your group has another website, or a location, you can add it here!

To spread the word about your group, invite people to join it! You can invite people by typing in email addresses, inviting your friends on our network, or importing your web address book. 

To invite people to a group, go to the group's page and click the "Invite More People" link. Non-members will need to join the waiters today network in order to join the group.

The Group Creator controls whether or not a member can send a Broadcast Message to everyone in the group. If this feature is turned on, you will see a "Send Message to Group" link. Click on the link to open up a simple message box. You will only be able to enter text in this box.

If you do not see the "Send Message to Group" link, that means the Group Creator has not enabled this feature.

After you have composed your message, click "Send," and your fellow group mates will receive your message shortly.

If members have opted out of receiving Group messages or messages from the network, they will not receive your message.

After you've created a Group, you can edit most details about it it if you need. Please note, however, that the Group Creator and Privacy settings cannot be changed after the Group has been created. Go to the Groups tab and click on the "My Groups" link to bring up the groups you've created. Click on the title link to bring up the Group Detail page.

The Text Box, Discussion Forum and RSS feeds can all be edited or added to. To edit these modules, just click the "Edit" button in the header or the "Add" and "Start" links beneath the header. To edit the title, description or other specifications of the Group settings, click the Options drop-down menu, then click on the "Edit Group" link. From here, you can also determine which features to include on the main Group page.

If the "Allow members to send messages to the entire group" option is checked off, then your Group's members will be able to send private messages to anyone else also in the group.

You can suspend members from your group by clicking the "Manage Group Members" link in the Options drop-down menu on your group's home page. Locate the member you'd like to ban from your group, check the box next to their name, and click the "Suspend from Group" button.

You can also promote group members to Administrators to help you manage the group. To promote a member to Administrator status, locate the group member you'd like to promote to Administrator status and check the box next to their name. Click the button to "Promote to Administrator" and you're all set!

You can use the feature option to showcase interesting groups on our Waoiters Today Network.

Here's how it works.

  1. Sign in to Waiters Today Network.
  2. Find the group you would like to feature and go to the group's detail page.
  3. In the "Admin Options" box, click "Feature." 
  4. Go to the Main Page of our Network. Click the "Edit" button in the upper right corner of the groups box and select to display groups from "Featured." 
You featured group will now appear on the main page! If you ever want to remove the group from your Main Page, simply return to the group's detail page and click "Stop Featuring."
If a group creator doesn't upload an image when setting up a new group, the default group image will appear. Go to the My Network tab and click on the Features link under Settings. Click on the "Browse" button and upload your image. It can be in a .GIF, .JPG or .PNG format.Click "Save," and you're done!

Invite People To Our Network

To invite new members, sign in to our Network and go to the Invite tab to invite your friends. You can invite people to join your our Network by manually typing in their email addresses, or you can import your contacts from an address book stored with your email provider or on your computer.

There are two options for inviting your friends from the Invite page.  Click on the blue triangles to expand or collapse the invitation options.

Import from Web Address Book: Just type in the address and the password for an email account on AOL Mail, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail or Hotmail — you'll immediately be able to invite any of your contacts to your Waiters Today Network.

Enter Email Addresses: If you have a particular set of email addresses that you want to send invitations to, you can enter these email addresses manually in this section. Enter multiple email addresses into the "Send To" field.

If your invitations aren't being delivered by using the Invite tab, then you may want to ask the members you've invited to check their spam folders.

 

Introduction To A Photos Tab

The Photos feature on Waiters Today Network allows you to upload photos and share them across the web. You can use the bulk media uploader to add up to 100 photos at a time to your profile page. You can also import photos from your Flickr account or create albums using photos that have been uploaded to the network.

You can browse all of the photos everyone has uploaded to Waiters Today Network by heading to the Photos tab. You'll see the thumbnails and titles of the photos along with who uploaded each, sorted in order of those most recently uploaded to the Waiters Today Network.

To learn more about a photo, click on the title or thumbnail. You'll be taken to the photo detail page, where you can see information like when the photo was uploaded, its rating, tags, number of views, and any comments people have left on the photo. Here you can rate, comment, add as a favorite, share this photo with others or send the member a message.

To add a photo to your My Favorites folder, click on the "Favorite" link beneath the photo. To see all of the photos you've added as favorites, click the My Favorites tab near the top of the page.

To share a comment about the photo, type your comment in the box below the photo. You can format your text or add links, images, or files using the toolbar.

If you want to receive an email notification whenever anyone comments on this photo, click on the "Follow" link beneath the Comment box. To stop receiving notifications, go back to the same photo and click where it will then say "Stop Following."

To upload photos using the bulk uploader, go to the Photos page and click the "Add Photos" link. Then, click the camera icon to select which images you'd like to upload from your computer.

The following formats are supported: .jpg, .png, and .gif.

If you want to select multiple photos at a time, just hold down the "Control" or "Command" key on your keyboard and click each photo. Photos you've chosen to upload will display as a list in your bulk uploader.

After you add one batch, you can add even more photos to the list with the "Add More" link, and remove any using the "X" button to the right of each photo. Once you're ready to upload, click the "Upload" button.

On the next page you'll be able edit the "Title," "Description" and "Tags" field for each photo.  You can also choose to create a new album for those photos or to add them to an existing album. When you're done, click "Save" if you've added more information. You can also click "My Photos" at the top of the page to immediately start browsing your newly uploaded photos.

To upload photos individually, you can also use the simple uploader, located just under the bulk uploader.

When the upload completes, you'll be able to add the photo to an album and edit its information on the next page, just as you would with the bulk uploader.

When you join the Waiters Today Network, a unique email address is assigned to your profile on that social network. You can use this email address to send photos and videos in one at a time to your social network. If your cell phone has a camera and email, this is a great way to add camera phone photos to your social network on the go! Any photo or video you send in to your unique email-in address will be added to the social network as uploaded by you.

To find your email-in address and to get started, click the "Settings" link in the right column of the page. At the bottom of the page, locate the "Mobile Uploads" section. You'll find your email-in address under "Add by phone." it should look like a combination of your name on the social network and a few numbers, and the domain will be the URL of our Network.  

When you email in photos using this address, the subject of your email becomes the photo's title and any text in the body of the email will become the description of the photo.

 When you upload photos to our Network, you have the option to add a title and a description to your photo.

You can edit any photo once you've uploaded it. You can rotate the photo, add or edit the tags you've given it, change the title, description, location, and change the privacy settings of the photo. 

To edit a photo you've uploaded, head to that photo's detail page. Above the photo, you'll see the Options drop-down box. Simply click it to access the edit options. Directly from the photo's detail page, you can rotate it by clicking the "Rotate Photo" link, or add/edit your tags by clicking the "Edit Your Tags" links.  

To edit the title, description, location, and privacy settings of the photo, click the "Edit Photo" link. You'll be taken to a page where you can make any or all of these changes to your photo.

If you find an interesting photo you'd like to keep track of, you can use the "Follow" feature to receive an email whenever there is a new comment on that photo. This email notification will contain a link to the new comment.

To follow a photo, click on the name of the photo and then click the link to "Follow - Email me when people comment" on the bottom of its page.  If you're already following a photo and would like to stop doing so, this link will appear as "Stop Following." Click that to stop receiving email notifications about new comments on the photo. You can also control the emails you receive by clicking on “Settings” on the right side of any page and clicking “Email.”

By default, you'll automatically follow all photos you upload or comment on. This is a great way to keep updated on the photo and make sure you see all comments!

You can create a photo album that includes any of the photos on Waiters Today Network, even those you didn't upload. To create an album, head to the Photos page and click the "All Albums" link at the top.  Next, click the link to "Add an Album" in the upper right corner of the page.

On the album creation page, you can select whether you want to choose from just your photos or from everyone's photos on the waiters today network. You can also choose from only photos with a specific tag.

The photos you can add to your album will appear in the box on the left. Drag the photos you want to be in your album into position in the right pane. You can drag the photo that you'd like to appear as the album's cover to the box under the "Your Album" heading or it will automatically be the first photo in the album.  Also in that area you'll see the fields to give your album a title and a description. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page to make your album available to the rest of the network.

Videos

The Videos feature on our network allows you to upload videos and share them across the web. You can use the bulk media uploader to add up to 30 videos at a time to your profile page, or embed videos from popular video services like YouTube and GoogleVideo. The Videos page below displays featured content, along with member-generated videos complete with ratings and view counts.

You can browse all of the videos everyone has uploaded to our network by heading to the Videos tab. You'll see the thumbnails and titles of the videos, who uploaded each video and when, and the number of views, length of each video and average rating. By default, the videos are sorted in order of those most recently uploaded to your network.

To watch a video, click the title or thumbnail of it from the Videos tab. You will be taken to the Video Detail page, where you can watch the video and see information such as when the video was uploaded, its rating, tags, number of views, and comments people have posted about the video.

You can also subscribe to an RSS feed of Featured Videos or All Videos by clicking on the radio button in the lower left corner.

Let people know what you think of content by rating it. To rate a picture of video, head to the detail page of that content and locate the "Rate" section underneath it on the right side. You can give a rating out of five stars.

To give the photo or video a rating, simply click on the number of stars you think it should receive. Your rating will then be reflected in the average to the left. Don't worry! Your rating remains anonymous, so you can be honest. If you change your mind, you can always return to the detail page and click the stars to change your rating.

The easiest way to add videos to your social network is to use the bulk media uploader which allows you to add up to 30 videos at a time. We support videos in the following formats: .mov, .mpg, .avi, .3gp and .wmv formats.  

To upload videos, go to the Videos tab and click the "Add Videos" link. Then, just click the "Click to Add Videos" icon to select which videos you'd like to upload from your computer. If you want to select multiple videos at a time, just hold down the "Control" or "Command" key on your keyboard and click the extra videos. Videos you've chosen to upload will display as a list on our network.

After you add one batch, you can add more videos to the list with the "Add More" link. To remove any, use the "X" link to the right of each video. Once you're ready to upload, click the "Upload" button. Next, you can add a Title, Description, and Tags for each video.

If you're experiencing issues with the bulk uploader, you can always use the simple uploader by clicking the link to try the "simple uploader" at the bottom of the page.

You can also add videos to your network from other services, such as YouTube, Hulu or Vimeo, using embed code. From the "Add Videos" page, scroll to the bottom of the page and locate the section that says "Add videos from YouTube, Hulu, or Vimeo" and click in the box. Paste the embed code for the video into the box and click to save.

Any time after you've uploaded a video, you can edit its tags, as well as it title, description and privacy settings.  To edit a video you've uploaded, head to that video's detail page. Above the video, you'll see the Options drop-down menu, which contains set of options for editing your video's information.

Once your video's information appears as you'd like, click "Save" at the bottom of the page.

If you find an interesting bit of content that you'd like to keep track of, you can use the "Follow" link to receive an email whenever there is any activity on the content item. The "Follow" link can usually be found below the Comment Wall on the Detail page for that content item. The email notification will contain a link to the new activity. By default, you'll automatically follow any content you post, upload or comment on. This is a great way to stay updated and to make sure you see all comments!

You can opt to follow (and thus receive email notifications about) Events, Blog Posts, Pages, Forum Discussions, Videos, Photos or content from a particular member.

To keep updated on Events, Blog Posts, Pages or Forum Discussions, you will find the "Follow" link on the individual entries. Additionally, for Forum Discussions, you can find the "Follow" link on the All Discussions page in addition to the Discussion Category pages.

To follow content from a particular member, click on the features link beneath the member's profile photo on their Profile Page (such as "Videos (3)" to be taken to a page displaying all of the content that member has uploaded within that feature.

From there, you can click the "Follow" link on this page to follow all such content that gets posted by that member.

To follow Photos or Videos, just click the "Follow" link below the Comment Wall on the individual photo or video. If you want to follow all Photos or Videos posted by a particular member, go to the member's Profile Page and click on the Photos (or Videos) link beneath their profile photo.

If you're already following a content item and would like to stop, just return to the item you are currently following and the link below the Comment Wall will now appear as "Stop Following." Click that link to stop receiving email notifications about new comments or activity on the content item.

When you join our network, a unique "Add By Phone" email address is assigned to your Profile on that network. You can use this address to send photos or videos, one at a time, to Waiters Today Network.  If your cell phone has a camera and email, this is a great way to add photos or videos to your network while on the go! Any photo or video you send in to your unique Add By Phone email address will be added to the network and attributed to you.

To find your Add By Phone email address, click the "Settings" link in the right column of the page. At the bottom of the page locate the "Mobile Uploads" section. You'll find your email address under "Add by Phone." 

When you send in photos or videos using this address the subject of your email becomes the title of the photo or video and any text in the body of the email will be added as the description.  The subject will show up in your Tweet if you elect to post to Twitter.

 

Chat

The Chat feature allows you to participate in a live, real-time network-wide chatroom as well as private chats with other members of our network.

Members can participate in a network-wide chatroom, initiate a private chat with someone, set audio notifications on or off, pop Chat out to a new window, and set their status as "Offline."

With a persistent Chat bar at the bottom of every page of our network, you can see what's going on at a glance.

The Chat bar will display the name of your social network, along with the number of members online. Clicking the arrow button will pop the Chat right up onto your Main Page.

A dialogue icon will flash whenever a member invites you into a private chat.

The pop-out icon opens chat into a new window. If you've popped out your chat and want to navigate back to the our network, just click on our network name in the top-left corner of the Chat window.

The icon furthest to the right toggles your online status — the green circle indicates that you're online, while the red circle indicates that you're disconnected.

You can participate in the chatroom on our network by accessing the Chat bar at the bottom of the page, by going to the Main Page Chat module, or by going to the Chat tab. From the Chat page or module, you can see the number of members signed into Chat and toggle your status as online or disconnected from Chat.

When you sign in to a social network with the Chat feature on it, you will automatically appear as "online" in the chatroom.

In the right column, a list of members currently in the chatroom appears.

Clicking on a member's profile photo pops up a dialogue that allows you to view their profile on the social network or initiate a private chat with them. When the member accepts, the two of you will be placed in your own separate chatroom. You can hop back into the main chatroom by clicking the "Main" tab.

Events

The Events feature is a great way to let members know about upcoming conferences, concerts, or parties related to the theme of our network.

You can even organize in-person meet ups using the Events feature on our network. You can invite anyone to join your Event, even people who haven't yet joined!

Each Event can include the Time, Location, Event Type, Organizer, link to the event's website, a Description, Comment Wall and a list of RSVPs.

As an Event Creator, you can choose the Event's features and Privacy settings. You can edit the Privacy settings even after you have created the Event. You can also send out a Broadcast Message to everyone who has been invited to the Event.

To RSVP to an event you've been invited to, head to the Events tab and click on the event you want to RSVP to.

On the right side of the page, locate the "Your RSVP" box. Choose your RSVP option. To change your RSVP, simply click the "Change RSVP" link on the Event's page.

To create an event, go to the Events page and click the "Add" link.

Next, fill in information about your event. If you upload an image it should be roughly square in size so it doesn't get distorted once the event is created. In the "Description" field, you can add text, hyperlinks, images and even files with the text editor.

To spread the word about your event, invite people to RSVP! You can invite people by typing in email addresses, selecting from your list of friends across waiters today, importing your web address book, or importing from an address book application. 

To invite people to an event, go to the event's page and click the "Invite More People" link. Invitees will need to join our network in order to RSVP for the event.

If you are the creator of an event, you can disable RSVPs, hide the guest list or close the event to new attendees by enabling those options after you click the "Edit" button of an event.

To update your Event, go to the event's page and click the "Edit Event" link in the Options drop-down menu. You can change any information about the event, including the privacy level of the event, and even close it to new attendees.

You can quickly edit the location or event type from the Event's page, or edit any of the other fields you filled out when creating your event.

If you make changes to your event, you may want to let people who have been invited to the event know. As an event creator, you can opt to send a message to people who are attending, people who might attend, people who haven't yet RSVPed, or people who are not attending. 
You can send people an update - or a reminder about your event - by returning to the event's page and clicking the Send Message link.

You can easily send messages to guests of your event. On the event detail page, click the "Send Message to Guests" link in the Options drop-down menu.

Choose which guests you'd like to send your message to and write your message below. Click "Send" to send the message!

If you find an interesting event you'd like to keep track of, you can use the "Follow" feature to receive an email whenever there is a new comment added to the page for that event. This email notification will contain a link to the new comment.

To follow an event, click on the name of the event and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click the link to "Follow - Email me when people comment." If you're already following an event and would like to stop doing so, this link will appear as "Stop Following." Click that to stop receiving email notifications about new comments on the event. You can also control the emails you receive by clicking on “Settings” on the right side of any page and clicking “Email.”

By default, you'll automatically follow all events you create or comment on. This is a great way to keep updated on the event and make sure you see all comments!

If you find someone on our network you'd like to be able to send private messages to or invite to your groups or events, you can add them as your friend on the Waiters Today network. You can even add a note to your friend request to them. Once you add them as a friend, they'll receive a notification that you'd like to be friends. They can then choose to accept the friend requests and become friends with you, or ignore the request.

To send a friend request to someone on the social network, go to their profile page. Click the "Add as friend" link under their profile photo. A confirmation window will pop up. If you'd like to add a note to your friend request, click the "Add a personal message" link. Some people don't feel comfortable accepting friend requests from people they don't know, so this is a great way to let them know how you might know each other or why you'd like to be friends.

You can find members on our network using regular search, or you can drill down to more specific queries with Advanced Search. Head to the Members tab and enter something into the text box to do a simple search.

To search for members in a specific location, like Palo Alto, CA, use the location field. Unless the member signed up with the zip code feature, members can save their location in any format. So if you're looking for residents of California, be sure to search for "CA", "California" or any other ways they members might have entered their location.

Wherever you see the grid view of members in your Ning Network, a green online status light will show up near the thumbnails of members who are currently online.
