This might help someone to know what to look for.

True story. Five ladies and a small child were in my restaurant. Not to be racist but on the off chance that you have the same ladies in your section they were hispanic.

Everything was OK, until the end of the meal. They ordered a meal to go. I made the salad freshly and brought the food. I asked if there was anything I could get out of their way. one woman handed me her plate the other four  had their forks poised above the last bites of food, looking at me, not eating. Three minutes later they had a manager at the table. Their complaints:

I hadn't cleared their plates.

The portion to go was too small. I should have asked if they wanted a dinner portion. (it was lunch)

There was a hair in one of their salads.

The to go salad was not fresh. (I showed it to colleagues and managers and it was perfect)

What happened?

Their $95 check was marked down to $14 and they didn't give me a cent.

Why do big companies insist on appeasing "customers" like this?

This sickens me. Every piece of shit out there goes into a restaurant now thinking they're gonna get a free meal.

Is the norm in chains. Not quite as bad in independents. Gotta get rid of "the customer is always right."

I love my job, but years in hospitality have made me mean spirited and a little cruel. But I say it with a smile!

Glad to be working in a place where that shit would not fly. 95 down to 14? Ohhhhh, hell no.

The guy who said "The customer is always right," drove 3 sep. businesses into the ground and died a poor man.

I just tweeted today about people who always have a complaint yet continue to come in week after week.  I know they think we're going to comp them or something, but since they keep coming back why bother?  It will only snowball from there!  There are times complaints are legit but in this man's case....NOT.

Seriously? That's pathetic. People like that are pathetic. Sadly they're much too common. I work in a movie theater/grill and people like to think they can take advantage of the dark. A woman once brought out her plate of nachos to one of my coworkers working a different section. She then called me over to complain that her nachos were so awful she only took a few bites. Of course, I later learned from my manager and coworker that she'd eaten every bite and was trying to pull the wool over my eyes. Of course she acted surprised and victimized when I refused her the comp, but the customer is never right when it involves stealing so.. too bad.:P

I forgot to mention, they asked me to leave the cheese grater at the table and I did. (this was before I knew I wasn't allowed to do this, apparently people steal them!) I even refilled it a couple times. They complained that I left it at the table. I wish I had had the presence of mind to call the police, this is obviously theft by deception, but I don't have the balls and I had only been there a very short time.

It shits me too tears when stuff like this happens, the rip off artists work systemically and like in London 2012 choreographed to perfection' zero outa 10 score for me.
